A rare plant that is a pioneer in distrubed sites. Usually found along sandy sites, along waterways, canal banks, dunes, beaches, salt flats. Golden yellow flowers reaching 3' tall in fall make it a burst of sunshine when others are finishing blooming, although can bloom throughout the year. When the petals are crushed, they give off a distinctive camphor odor. It is drought tolerant but prefers some moisture, full to part sun and is salt tolerant.
