Ipomopsis rubra, commonly known as Standing Cypress, is a striking biennial or short-lived perennial native to the southeastern United States. It features tall, slender stems adorned with clusters of bright red, tubular flowers that attract pollinators.
  
Growing Requirements: Standing Cypress thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It prefers sandy or loamy soils and is drought-tolerant once established. Sow seeds directly into the garden in the fall for blooms the following year.
  
Benefits to Wildlife: Standing Cypress is highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees due to its abundant nectar. 
It also serves as a host plant for caterpillars, including those of the painted lady butterfly (Vanessa cardui), providing essential food sources for these butterfly larvae. Additionally, its dense foliage offers shelter for small birds and other wildlife.
